More About Ms. Liew
While I was born in Prince George, I moved to Vancouver when I was 4 and did all of my schooling here. I am a proud graduate of False Creek Elementary and Kitsilano Secondary. I was in grade 2 the first time I told someone I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up, but I also wanted to be a novelist, an archaeologist, a cashier, or a journalist when I was a kid. But I soon came to recognize that teaching was my calling, and by grade 9, I was firmly set on my path to teaching, and I never looked back. I still fantasize about writing a novel one day or hosting my own cooking show, but honestly couldn't imagine myself in any other career.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English and a minor in History from the University of British Columbia. I also completed a Bachelor of Education degree at UBC, where I did a double major in English and Social Studies. I have been teaching since the fall of 2004 when I began my teaching career as a teacher-on-call in the Okanagan. I soon returned to Vancouver and began working at Windermere as a part-time teacher in November 2005. Windermere has been my home ever since though I also briefly spent time at Tupper and Van Tech. Over the course of my career, I have taught English, ELL, Social Studies and Special Education courses. In 2015, I went back to school, and completed a post-graduate certificate in Special Education through Queen's University. Many of the strategies that I learned benefit ALL learners in my classroom, not simply those with exceptional learning needs, so I feel it was a learning experience that really enhanced my skills as a classroom teacher.
During COVID, I spent two years as a Secondary Technology Support Teacher for the VSB where I helped other teachers build their skills with using technology in the classroom. Working in this role made me really excited about the possibilities of blended learning, and I transformed my approach to teaching when I returned to Windermere in 2022.
